Coconuts are in season all year round because you can always buy them fresh. This is the case with many tropical fruits. There are no extreme seasons such as summer and winter there. Therefore the fruits ripen all year round.
When is coconut season?
Coconuts have no specific season as they ripen all year round in tropical regions. The maturation time varies between 6 and 12 months, although different types of coconuts can differ in size, color, weight, shape and amounts of coconut water and meat.
Coconuts have a ripening period of up to twelve months. Some coconuts are harvested after just six to eight months of ripening. These include, for example, the drinking coconuts, which are popular in Thailand and are cut from the palm tree in whole bunches.
Are there any differences between individual coconuts?
Different types of coconut differ in:
- Size
- color
- Weight
- Shape
- Amount of coconut water contained
- Amount of coconut meat contained
Also, the flavor of a coconut varies depending on the amount of sun or rain it receives while growing.
Tips & Tricks
You can recognize a fresh coconut by the gurgling sound of the coconut water when you shake the nut. If you don't hear anything, then the nut is old.
