Fungal diseases attack plants that are weak and growing in a location that is not conducive to them and has too high a moisture content in the air. In order to avoid diseases in the lovage, a suitable location should be chosen from the outset.

What location does lovage need?

The ideal location for lovage is a full sun to partial shade with deep, permeable, humus-rich and slightly acidic to slightly alkaline soil. Southeast or southwest locations on the balcony are suitable in the pot.

Best location for sowing

The right location is important when sowing lovage in order to achieve success. The place should be warm (at least 20 °C) and bright.

If you prefer lovage at home in a pot or in a growing bowl, place the container near a heater, e.g. B. on the bright window sill in the living room or kitchen. It is usually warm, especially in the kitchen, and the humidity is high due to cooking.

Location requests outdoors and in pots

Once the plants are grown, they need a location in full sun to partial shade. Maggi herb prefers to grow outdoors in the blazing sun and in a pot on the balcony in a southeast or southwest facing position. Ideally, the site is in a sheltered location.

What should the soil be like?

Deep soil is important because lovage develops a long and thick rhizome. Furthermore, the floor should have the following characteristics:

  • slightly acidic to slightly alkaline
  • high nutrient content
  • humus-rich
  • permeable
  • sandy-loamy to loamy
  • fresh to moist (avoid waterlogging and dryness!)
  • likes limestone
