The Cyprus grass, which is found in Madagascar and Mauritius as well as in East Africa, doesn't just look exotic. It also has 'exotic' location requirements. It grows exactly where most other plants struggle
Which site conditions does Cyprus grass prefer?
The ideal location for Cyprus grass is warm, bright and moist. The temperature should be between 15 and 30 °C, with a humidity of around 60%. Direct sun is preferred and the substrate can be hydroponic or loamy, humic and poorly drained.
Wet and warm
Whether in a garden pond, in a pot in the bathroom, in a glass on the terrace or in an aquarium - the following applies to Cyprus grass: the main thing is moist to wet, light and warm.
Please also note these tips when choosing a location:
- Temperature between 15 and 30 °C
- is not hardy
- high humidity of around 60%
- not dark/shady
- not necessarily protected
- like direct sun
- Substrate: not necessary (for hydroponics (€13.00 on Amazon) pebbles and fertilizer are sufficient)
- for pot cultivation: loamy, poorly drained, humus-rich substrate
Tip
If the Cyprus grass has enough water available, it can serve as a natural room humidifier. Up to 2 liters of water can evaporate every day.
