The native pimpinelle, which is botanically correctly called small meadow button or Sanguisorba minor, has almost been forgotten today - completely wrongly, because the very aromatic and he althy herb grows in almost every garden.
Which location is best for the Pimpinelle?
The ideal location for the Pimpinelle is sunny to partially shaded, with moist, nutrient-rich and loose soil. The plant prefers an alkaline pH because it needs a lot of lime. Waterlogging and dryness should be avoided to prevent loss of aroma.
Sunny but not too dry
First of all: The Pimpinelle loves sun and therefore prefers a sunny to partially shaded location. However, it should be as light as possible, but definitely not too dry, otherwise the leaves won't develop much aroma. Therefore, the soil is at best moist, but not wet, because like so many plants, the pimpinelle does not like waterlogging. It is also an advantage if the soil is as nutrient-rich (humic) and loose as possible. A pH value in the alkaline range is ideal, as the Pimpinelle requires a lot of lime.
Tips & Tricks
The plant should only be watered from below, otherwise it is quite susceptible to downy mildew infestation. The same also applies if the leaves are often kept moist due to increased rainfall.
