When and how should you transplant daylilies?
Daylilies should be transplanted before budding or immediately after flowering. To do this, carefully dig up the plant, clean the roots and divide into fist-sized pieces. Then dig a planting hole at the new location, place the roots, cover with soil, tamp down and water. Shorten the leaves to 15 cm and water regularly for 2 weeks.

The main reasons for transplanting
Daylilies are usually transplanted when:
- there is no longer enough space at the location
- the location is not suitable (too sunny, too shady, etc.)
- another plant should be put in its place
- their ability to bloom decreases
Finding the perfect location
Daylilies prefer to grow in a warm to moderately cool and bright place. Full sun locations are well suited for daylilies with bright flowers. Partially shaded locations are the better choice for daylilies with dark flowers. There the flower colors fade less quickly due to the sunlight.
The best time to implement
Daylilies should be transplanted before budding or immediately after flowering. If you miss the right time, you can also transplant these robust plants in summer. They usually survive the procedure unscathed.
Dig up and divide daylilies
First, you should carefully dig up the daylily with a digging fork (€139.00 on Amazon) or small shovel. Be careful not to injure the roots! After the root is lifted out, it should be cleaned. It is then advisable to divide them into fist-sized pieces. On the one hand it serves to multiply this plant and on the other hand it gives the old plant more strength again.

- Pile soil in it
- Place root on top
- Cover the roots with soil, press the soil down, water generously

Tips & Tricks
Don't worry if the daylily doesn't bloom after transplanting. After such stress, it often takes a break from flowering or produces fewer flowers.
