The primroses in the pot in the apartment have withered. But that is no reason to dispose of them in the organic waste bin. If you have a garden, you now have the opportunity to plant primroses there.
How can you plant primroses correctly?
Primroses can be planted in the garden after flowering between March and April. Choose a partially shaded location, dig a 20 cm deep planting hole, loosen the soil and add compost. Plant the primrose with the root ball, cover it with soil and then water it thoroughly. Maintain it in a shady and cool location for a second bloom in summer.

After flowering is the best time
When the primroses in the pot have bloomed - this is usually the case between March and April - they can be planted out in the garden. However, it is best not to plant them until frost is no longer expected. There are primrose species that tolerate frost less well.
Finding a suitable location and soil
Find a suitable location first before you get to work. Primroses prefer to grow in a semi-shady location. They also thrive in the sun without any problems. However, they should not be planted in a full sun location facing south.
The substrate into which they spread their roots should have the following properties:
- medium to high nutrient content
- medium to high humus content
- sandy-loamy to sandy-peaty
- slightly moist environment
- slightly acidic pH value
Planting step by step
First, a generous planting hole with a diameter of 20 cm and a depth of around 20 cm should be dug at the chosen location. The soil in it is loosened well. A little compost (€12.00 at Amazon) gives the primroses a good start to their outdoor life.
Now the dead primrose is removed from the pot. If necessary, roots that are too long and gaunt are cut off. The primrose and its root ball are placed in the planting hole. Now it is covered with earth.
Finally, the soil is pressed down and the primrose is watered generously. Rainwater is best suited for watering, as primroses do not like lime. If you plant several primroses, you should maintain a minimum distance of 10 cm between the individual plants.
