Forsythia hedges are very popular because they bloom beautifully in spring and form a dense privacy screen in summer thanks to their many green leaves. However, you shouldn't expect a well-kept hedge if you plant forsythia as a hedge.
How do you plant a forsythia hedge correctly?
To create a forsythia hedge, plant cuttings or cuttings in the spring after flowering, 30 cm apart along a line. Loosen the soil, mix in compost and water the hedge well without causing waterlogging. Only cut after three years.

To create forsythia as a hedge, you need a number of cuttings depending on the length of the future forsythia hedge. Three to four plants are enough for a meter of hedge.
You can purchase the cuttings from garden shops. It's even easier if you already care for forsythia in the garden. Then simply cut cuttings and plant them on the spot.
The best time to plant a forsythia hedge
The best time to plant forsythia as a hedge is spring, right after flowering.
To do this, cut the required number of cuttings from the old forsythia. Take forsythia branches from the previous year that have just bloomed. They are semi-woody and root well.
The length of the cuttings should be between 10 and 15 centimeters. If you want to plant the hedge later, place the cuttings in pots with potting soil (€6.00 on Amazon) and care for them in a sunny place until planting.

Let the forsythia grow for the first three years. Only then do you start cutting the forsythia hedge.
Tips & Tricks
Even if one of the offshoots doesn't grow, it's not a big deal. Then simply cut new cuttings from the forsythia in spring and stick them in the orphaned place in the hedge.
