The Christmas rose is absolutely easy to care for. There are only two things that the plant, which tolerates shade well, really takes offense at. One is a compacted plant substrate that is too low in lime, the other is a place that is too warm in the middle of the sun. How to find the right location for the snow rose.
Where should a Christmas rose best stand?
The ideal location for a Christmas rose is bright, preferably shady and protected from the wind. It thrives well under deciduous trees or shrubs. It should be placed in the pot in a bright, shady place on the terrace or balcony. A cool north-facing window in the house is recommended.
A shady spot in the garden
In the garden, a location that meets the following conditions is ideal:
- Bright
- Like the shade
- No direct sun
- Protected from the wind
The snow rose thrives very well under deciduous trees or bushes. They provide shade and shed leaves in autumn, which serve as mulch for the Christmas rose.
If you have planted the snow rose under conifers, you need to keep an eye on the lime content of the soil.
The right location for Christmas roses in pots
The pot with the Christmas rose should be in a bright, preferably shady place on the terrace or balcony. Direct sunlight, especially in summer, must be avoided.
This is the best place for the Christmas rose in the house
The Christmas rose is not a houseplant and only belongs in the house when it is in bloom. During this time it will do best if the pot is placed in a cool window. When exposed to sunlight, it needs some sun protection. A north window is even better.
After flowering, either place the Christmas rose outdoors in a pot or plant it in a favorable location in the flower bed in spring.
Tips & Tricks
To loosen the soil in the flower pot, add some sand underneath. It has also proven useful to mix small Styrofoam balls (€13.00 on Amazon) into the planting substrate. The beads prevent the soil from compacting over time.
