Before buying bamboo, consider the planned location. Is the bamboo protected? Does the plant have enough shade or is it exposed to direct sun? How are the lighting conditions? Only choose bamboo varieties that suit the location.
What factors are important when it comes to bamboo location?
When purchasing bamboo, the location should be taken into account: protection from wind, sufficient shade or sunlight, and space requirements. Because different types of bamboo require different conditions in order to grow optimally, as a privacy screen, green fence or decorative element.
Bamboo is not the same as bamboo
Different types of bamboo prefer different locations in which they grow optimally. That's why it's also important to know what purpose the bamboo should serve. For example, it serves in place as:
- Visibility screens and wind protection
- green fence or hedge
- Decoration and design element
Clarify important location questions in advance
How much space is available overall and for each individual plant? To avoid trouble with neighbors, we recommend asking the municipality or authority about the permissible plant height and minimum distance to adjacent properties.
Tips & Tricks
Rule of thumb space size: for tall and root-forming bamboo plants, such as Phyllostachys, the following applies: final height multiplied by itself=space requirement in square meters for the next 15 years. For a bamboo with a final height of 5 meters, 25 square meters is the ideal size.
