Honeysuckle, which cleverly winds up objects, is not just a popular climbing plant. It can also serve as an ornamental flower and privacy plant. But it doesn't grow equally well everywhere
Where should honeysuckle be planted?
The ideal location for a honeysuckle is a partially shaded place with shady, cool roots. Avoid full sunny southern locations and ensure that the plant has climbing support such as trees, bushes, walls, fences or trellises available.
Bright and at the same time shady and cool
All types of honeysuckle prefer to grow in a partially shaded place. The underground roots should be shady and cool. This can be ensured, for example, by a layer of mulch (€27.00 on Amazon) or planted ground cover.
While a sunny location inhibits growth and promotes pest infestation, a shady location leads to balding. It is also important to provide the honeysuckle with a climbing aid such as:
- Trees
- robust shrubs
- Walls
- Fences
- Facades
- Pergolas
- Rose Arches
- Trellis
Tips & Tricks
Never plant honeysuckle on a house wall in full sun, south-facing position! It's not uncommon for heat and dryness there in summer. This climbing plant absolutely cannot tolerate that.
