The costs for a beech hedge depend on various aspects. It may be worth comparing prices. However, a price saving does not always prove to be really good value for money. If the quality is poor, many beech trees will not grow.

The cost of a beech hedge varies depending on the height of the plants, type of roots, number of plants required, where you buy it and whether you buy it online or in a specialist store. The price is around €60 for 50 plants with a height of 40-60 cm (as of summer 2016).

To grow a beech hedge, you need a correspondingly large amount of beech trees. How many are needed depends on the desired height. As a rule of thumb, you need to buy two to a maximum of four beech trees per meter of hedge length.
If you want the beech hedge to be tall and dense as quickly as possible, the costs are higher. You will then need more plants because you have to plant the beech trees at a smaller planting distance.

Bare root plants are delivered without soil and are much cheaper. However, they need longer to get used to the new location.
Where do you buy beech trees for a beech hedge?
You can get good books on the Internet, which are also quite inexpensive. For 50 plants with a height between 40 and 60 centimeters you currently have to expect costs of around 60.00 euros (as of summer 2016).
Unfortunately, it often turns out that the trees suffer from transport. The losses are higher than with beech trees that you buy from a specialist nursery.
In the specialist nursery, the trees cost almost twice as much. In return, you almost always get a guarantee of growth. If trees don't grow, you will get them replaced or at least reimbursed for the costs. You can also receive detailed advice from specialist retailers upon request.
Tip
It's even cheaper if you pull the beech trees for the beech hedge yourself. To do this, you just have to propagate existing beech trees using cuttings. However, it takes a little longer until you have a tall, dense beech hedge this way.
