The ambient temperature not only plays a crucial role in the germination of seeds. The temperature should not be ignored even during flowering and in winter. Why? Read this below!
What temperatures are optimal for ranunculus?
Ranunculus prefer cool temperatures during the flowering period, ideally in the shade. They are sensitive to frost, but hardy down to -3 °C, some varieties even down to -10 °C. Protect potted plants and tubers from temperatures that are too low in winter.
Ensure cool temperatures during flowering time
If you can, you should put the ranunculus in a cooler place when they are blooming (if they are grown in pots or cut flowers in a vase). This extends the flowering period. Outdoor plants should be placed in the shade so that their flowers last longer.
Temperatures that are too low mean the end
- Ranunculus have poor frost tolerance
- Do not leave potted plants outside
- Most of them are hardy down to -3 °C
- some varieties can tolerate temperatures down to -10 °C
- It is better to protect them in winter or to accommodate tubers
Tip
Ranunculus don't like high temperatures combined with drought at all. So spare these plants and plant and care for them properly!
