Yellow, orange, red, pink, two-tone, densely filled, wide-open-exposed - the flowers of peonies can have completely different designs depending on the variety. But they all have one thing in common: they bloom over a certain period of time. When exactly is that?
When are peonies blooming?
Peonies bloom from May to June, although perennial peonies in local gardens can bloom as early as the beginning of May. In cooler locations, the flowers open from the end of May/beginning of June and are present well into June.

The perennial peonies, which are most commonly planted in local gardens, bloom at the beginning of May, depending on the weather. In cooler locations the flowers open from the end of May/beginning of June. The flowers are present well into June. Shrub/tree peonies also bloom at this time.
Before and after flowering – care
So that plenty of flowers form and the long stems do not break, it is advisable to fertilize the peony before flowering. During flowering, water abundantly if there is no rain.
After flowering, it is a good idea to cut off the old flowers to prevent seeds from forming (takes a lot of effort). Unless you need the seeds for propagation
Characteristics of flowers
The flowers of peonies have these characteristics:

- on average 8 to 10 cm in diameter (some species over 20 cm)

- usually intensely scented
- tightly filled to unfilled
- 4 to 13 petals
- 2 to 9 sepals

Tip
If you like, you can use individual flowers as cut flowers. They should also be cut off when they are still in bud with the stem as long as possible.
