The girl's eye (Coreopsis) is also called beautiful face because of its graceful flowers that are reminiscent of small sunflowers. The grateful perennial was often grown in cottage gardens in the past and primarily delights gardeners with its low demands and large abundance of flowers.

When is the flowering time of the girl's eye?

The flowering period of the girl's eye (coreopsis) extends from July to September. By regularly removing wilted flowers, the production of more flowers can be stimulated, resulting in a longer flowering period.

A summery ornament with endurance

Depending on the subspecies and the climatic conditions, the girl's eye is an annual or perennial and, after a vigorous pruning to just above the ground, grows every year into a bush about 60 centimeters high. Some subspecies can also grow much more upright and reach heights of up to 2 meters with a support. After a few years of standing in one location, bushy plants form a particularly large number of flower stalks on which the perennial flowers of the girl's eye bloom at a slightly delayed time from July to September.

Mixing different Coreopsis species

The girl's eye is available in a wide variety of subspecies from specialist retailers, for example in the following flower colors:

  • Bright Yellow
  • Delicate white
  • Pink
  • Red

You can get particularly attractive flower beds if you mix different colors as well as star-shaped and double-flowered types.

Tip

If you don't want to harvest seeds, you can regularly remove wilted flowers from the girl's eye to encourage the production of more flowers.
