Once autumn crocuses have become rooted in the bed and lawn, they continue to multiply inexorably using daughter bulbs and seeds. Given the high toxic content, some gardeners feel as if they have opened Pandora's box by planting them. You can read how to remove the penetrating poisonous plants here.
How do I remove autumn crocus from my garden?
To effectively remove autumn crocuses, you should put on gloves at the end of April/beginning of May, weed out all leaves and flower stalks and dispose of them with household waste. Repeat this process for 2 to 3 years to completely eliminate the plants.
Eliminate autumn crocuses with perseverance - How to do it
If the poisonous flower of 2010 threatens to spread uncontrollably in your garden, you are fighting a losing battle with classic weed control methods. Since the bulbs are 20 cm or deeper into the soil, herbicides will not be successful. It's better if you take the edge off the persistent plants with perseverance. This is how it works:
- Best date is end of April/beginning of May
- Put on gloves and weed all leaves and flower stalks with seed pods
- For reasons of caution, dispose of all removed plant parts in household waste
- Fight the poisonous crocuses in this way in the following 2 to 3 years
At this point the dead bulbs are completely exhausted. If the leaves are removed now, the autumn crocuses cannot regenerate. In addition, the daughter bulbs that have been planted are cut off from the nutrient supply and also die.
