Angel trumpets are especially loved by exotic plant fans for their splendor - but a lot has to be done for the large, trumpet-shaped flowers and the often attractively structured foliage - fertilizing is a must with the nightshade plant.
How should you fertilize an angel trumpet?
To optimally fertilize an angel's trumpet, first use long-term fertilizer after wintering. Supplement with growth fertilizer in spring and with flowering fertilizer for potted plants during the flowering phase. Stop fertilizing from the end of August.
The Hunger of the Angel Trumpet
The angel's trumpet actually looks angelic with its large, curved and delicate flowers - and its leaves are also extremely decorative with their flat structures that have different edges depending on the variety. Unfortunately, the beauty of the angel's trumpet doesn't come for free - if you want to get a specimen into your gardening kingdom, you have to expect some work.
Your origin
On the one hand, the plant is a non-native species - its origin lies in the South American Andes, where, above all, it does not experience temperatures like those in our winters. So outdoor cultivation is usually not possible in this country. It should be kept in a bucket, which must contain a substrate that is as voluminous and drainable as possible. Of course, this goes hand in hand with more nutrients.

But above all, the angel's trumpet belongs to the nightshade family and is therefore very hungry and thirsty. Due to its energy-sapping flowers and leaves with lots of surface area, it also evaporates huge amounts of water and needs a lot of nutrients. In order to grow them beautifully, intensive fertilizer application is extremely useful.

Fertilizing on two channels
Long-term fertilizer
The angel's trumpet should be fertilized in two ways throughout the main vegetation phase, like many heavy feeders. To ensure that it never gets into a dangerous phase of hunger, you should start with it after hibernation - ideally, orIf necessary, after giving it a larger pot - provide it with a slow-release fertilizer.
Short-term fertilizer
In addition, regular short-term fertilizer application is necessary. In spring you should use a growth fertilizer with an increased nitrogen content. It strengthens the plant in the initial period after its hibernation and prepares it for the strenuous flowering phase. When the first flowers are formed, a special flowering fertilizer for potted plants (€15.00 on Amazon) with an increased potassium value is recommended. You can also dissolve simple blue grain fertilizer in the irrigation water.
Fertilization stop from the end of August
At the end of the vegetation phase, around the end of August, you should stop fertilizing so that the angel's trumpet can gradually adjust to its resting phase.
