Palm plants enchant terraces, balconies and the garden with their southern flair. Unfortunately, most palm tree species are not winter-hardy and cannot be planted directly outdoors. Overwintering palm trees in your apartment or house is no problem.
How can you overwinter a palm tree in a pot?
To overwinter a palm tree in a pot successfully, place it in a frost-free garage, a cool stairwell or a warm living room. Pay attention to the light requirements, water sparingly, avoid fertilizers and ensure sufficient humidity.
The right place
You can use the palm tree:
- in the frost-free garage or in the basement
- in the cool stairwell or hallway
- in warm living rooms
overwinter.
The light requirement
This depends on the location. The higher the temperature, the more light the plant needs.
Care
Water the palm tree a little more sparingly in the winter months, but never let the substrate dry out completely. There is no fertilization at all during this time. Make sure there is enough humidity (€49.00 on Amazon) so that no pests settle on the plant.
Tip
If the palm tree moves back outdoors in spring, it must be carefully accustomed to the changed conditions. First place the plant in a protected, sunny place and then move it to its final location after about two weeks.
