The striking (and here very rare) Yucca rostrata with its typical blue leaves and strong trunks is a desert plant - and as such is of course not frost hardy. For this reason, the tree should never be planted in the garden, but should always be cultivated in a container.
How can I protect my Yucca rostrata in winter?
To overwinter the Yucca rostrata successfully, place it in a bright room with temperatures between 12 and 28 °C and low humidity. Avoid foil covers as moisture harms the plant. A heated living room or an unheated winter garden are ideal.
Yucca rostrata is not hardy
Temperatures between 12 and 28 °C are optimal, although the air should be as dry as possible. During the summer months it is best to place the Yucca rostrata in a hot and sunny place, but it is better to bring the pot in well before the first frost. You can overwinter the Yucca rostrata in the heated living room, as long as the humidity there is low (and you don't dry laundry in the living room!) and you ensure there is sufficient lighting. Alternatively, the tree also feels comfortable in a bright, unheated winter garden.
Tip
Never leave the Yucca rostrata outside in winter with foil or something similar to protect it from frost - moisture always forms underneath, which this desert plant is very sensitive to.
