Flower pots are available in garden centers in all colors and shapes. However, if you want to be creative and have something unique, you can make your own flower pots and use all kinds of materials.
How can you design your own flower pots through upcycling?
Upcycling flower pots can be done simply by repurposing everyday objects such as plastic bottles, cans or old shoes. Stability, a water drainage hole and portability of the vessel are crucial. Creative design options include painting, stickers or decorations with stones.
The right flower pot for every plant
In the garden, the terrace, the balcony or even in the room, in addition to the plants, the flower pots are also eye-catchers. Unusual examples demonstrate individuality and creativity. It's not that difficult to make flower pots from a variety of materials. The selected vessels only have to meet a few conditions:
- they should be stable enough for the plant
- you need a drainage hole for irrigation water
- they should be transportable
When designing, it is up to you how you best present the new pot.
Possible objects from everyday life that can be converted into a flower pot
Basically any container can be used as a flower pot if it is prepared accordingly. For example, old plastic bottles, cans, baskets, shoes, even old car tires are well suited. Of course, you can also redesign old clay and plastic pots. Painting, sticking with foil or small stones are simple options. There are no limits to your imagination.
Biodegradable flower pots
They are made of a material that breaks down and composts after a while. They are available as propagation containers in garden stores, but are relatively expensive. You can also easily make biodegradable flower pots yourself. All you need is, for example, toilet paper rolls or egg boxes.
- Take a toilet paper roll and cut several slits about 2 cm long on one side.
- Fold the resulting strips inwards so that they lie on top of each other.
- To prevent soil from falling out, place a piece of newspaper or baking paper inside.
- Now fill the roll with soil.
- Sow and water.
- As soon as the seedling develops its second leaf, it can be planted in the garden soil using the cardboard tube.
Egg cartons can also be used in a similar way. Add potting soil to the wells and sow seeds. As soon as the plant seedlings in the individual segments of the box have reached a certain size, each segment can be separated and planted directly into the ground.
