The crested lily is not hardy, which is what it has in common with other lily species such as the Mexican tiger lily. It is ideal as a summer plant for the garden because it is both exotically decorative and easy to care for.

How can the crested lily be properly overwintered?
In order to overwinter the crested lily successfully, it should be removed from the bed after flowering and stored frost-free at 6-9°C. Do not water or fertilize during this time and, if possible, store in a dark place.
Their second name, pineapple lily, refers to the appearance of the crested lily, as the flower is very reminiscent of a pineapple. After flowering, the time of winter rest comes very soon.
Take the crested lily from the bed and store the bulb in sand or place the planter in a frost-free winter quarters. Ideally the temperature is between six and nine degrees. Avoid watering or fertilizing the pineapple lily in winter.
