How should you properly repot an Easter cactus?
When repotting an Easter cactus, you should choose an appropriate pot with a drainage hole, use cactus soil or a 2:1 mixture of potting soil and sand, create a drainage layer and be careful with the delicate cactus limbs. Broken links can be used as cuttings.
If the pot is too small for your cactus, repot it sooner. But be sure to wait for the end of the flowering period, otherwise the beautiful splendor will probably come to an end quickly. During this time the Easter cactus reacts very sensitively to any changes. Unfortunately, it also reacts to a change in location, so that a cactus bought in bloom usually loses its flowers.
What should I pay attention to when repotting?
Be careful when repotting your Easter cactus, its limbs can break very easily. It's not a drama, but your cactus should still be attractive afterwards. Your Easter cactus only needs a larger pot if the old one is too small and you want the cactus to grow further. Otherwise, just replace the old soil.
The Easter cactus prefers cactus soil (€12.00 on Amazon), but also thrives in a mixture of normal potting soil and sand in a ratio of around 2:1. If there is no drainage layer yet, create one. All you need is a few pieces of pottery or coarse gravel, which you can put in the bottom of the pot.
What do I do with broken cactus limbs?
The broken cactus limbs are suitable as cuttings. This is how you can propagate your Easter cactus without much effort. However, the cutting you get in this way should have at least two limbs and be about 10 cm long. You can place this cutting straight into growing substrate or let it dry slightly beforehand.
