This attractive thick-leaved plant is one of the largest representatives of the Kalanchoe. In the wild, the plant can grow up to three meters high. When grown indoors, the succulent remains significantly smaller even with good care and rarely reaches a size of more than 60 centimeters. As with all Kalanchoes, breeding is possible without any problems.
How to propagate Kalanchoe Beharensis?
The easiest way to propagate Kalanchoe Beharensis is through leaf cuttings. You can divide leaves and place them in moistened succulent soil until they form offshoots, which are then placed in pots and further cared for.
How to propagate?
Kalanchoe Beharensis can be easily propagated by leaf cuttings. The plant often forms small offshoots on the edges of the leaves without any further action, which can be separated and used directly.
Cutting leaf cuttings
For this purpose, take a he althy leaf and prepare it as follows:
- Using a very sharp knife or razor blade, cut a strip from the outer edge.
- Cut large leaves into several pieces.
- Make three more cuts from the edge towards the center of the sheet.
Put cuttings in soil
Now attach a loop of floral wire to each cutting and insert the other end of the attachment into moistened succulent soil. Alternatively, you can simply place the pieces on the ground.
Keep the substrate evenly moist. To ensure that the plant parts are not washed away, it is recommended to use a sprayer (€9.00 on Amazon). Covering with a hood is possible, but not absolutely necessary.
Place the vessels in a bright, warm and sunny place on the windowsill. Small elephant ear offshoots will soon form on the trimmed edges.
Stimulate the mother plant to sprout offshoots
The same procedure can also be carried out directly on the mother plant. Also cut off the edge of a leaf and make several cuts.
Put offspring in substrate
As soon as the small plants have reached a size of around two centimeters, they are placed in pots with succulent soil and cared for like adult plants.
Tip
You can try to propagate the elephant ear in a completely different way. Separate a leaf and place it dry. After a certain time, roots begin to sprout at the interface, and young plants often form here. Wait until the mother leaf dries up and then continue cultivating it in soil.
