If the embankment walls are made of concrete and the pond liner is to be attached there, good advice is often expensive. You can find out in detail which solutions are possible here and which ones work less well in our article.
How do I attach pond liner to concrete?
To attach pond liner to concrete, you can use special styrene rubber adhesive or rails made of anodized aluminum or stainless steel. A combination of gluing and rail fastening ensures a long-lasting hold.
Problem
In this case, attaching the pond liner is essential. It is imperative that it be pulled up to the edge of the embankment. To fix it there, you need a stable solution.
Special conditions then apply to the fastening materials:
- They must be highly corrosion-resistant (since they constantly come into contact with the pond water)
- they must not expand too much in length when heated (poor hold, no tight screwing possible)
- they should offer a way to visually conceal the attachment
bonding
A very good and very simple option is togluing the foil. As an adhesive that sticks well to concrete, you should especially think of the adhesives that roofers (€23.00 on Amazon) use to firmly and permanently bond foils.
These are usually adhesives that are based on styrene rubber. They are suitable for both PVC and EPDM films and adhere the film reliably and permanently to the concrete.
In terms of cost, gluing is not expensive - for 2 - 3 m² of film you need glue for around 15 EUR.
Rail fastening
In addition to gluing or as a sole means of fastening, rails are particularly suitable. Because of the high corrosion resistance required and the required low expansion, only anodized aluminum and stainless steel can be considered here.
Plastic rails are a bad choice because, although they have good corrosion resistance, they can quickly expand significantly when heated. The sunlight is often particularly intense, especially in the bank area, which also leads to intense warming.
To visually conceal the rails, you can simply clip bank mats under the rail and then simply let them hang down over the rail later. This makes both the pond liner and the rail invisible in the bank area.
Tip
A combination solution of gluing and rail fastening will probably make the most sense. This definitely guarantees long-lasting hold.
