Ready-made plastic playhouses are available in various designs. But let's be honest: These don't fit in very well with the garden design. They also have the disadvantage that they do not grow with you and are usually only suitable for the youngest children. That's why we simply build and design our garden house for children ourselves.
How can you build a garden house for children yourself?
To build a garden house for children, you need screen-printed or OSB panels, squared timber, foundation or base plate, Plexiglas windows, a door, screws, nails and tools. First, plan the size and design of the playhouse as well as additional features such as ladders or slides.
The Plan
As with the arbor for the grown-ups, thorough planning takes place before construction:
- Should the garden house be on stilts or have a foundation?
- How big should the playhouse be?
- What additional features do the kids want (ladders, slide, climbing wall)?
The required building materials
The easiest way to implement it is to build it yourself with screen printing panels made of glued and coated plywood. These are available relatively cheaply and in several colors and designs in every major hardware store. Alternatively, OSB boards are also very suitable.
Added:
- Squared timber for the scaffolding
- A foundation or floor slab
- If windows are desired, they should be made of Plexiglas panels and not glass.
- One door.
- Sufficient screws and nails.
- Tools: ruler, hammer, screwdriver, cordless drill, saw and cutter knife.
Pretreat wood
It is advisable to paint all raw wooden parts before assembly. If the children want a colorful house and would like to help paint it, you can also paint the already finished house.
The Monday
- If you have decided on a solid foundation made of paving slabs, this will be made first.
- Then mount the lower frame and the four squared timbers on top, which will later form the corners.
- Attach walls in which openings for the windows have already been cut according to the construction plan.
- Install door.
- Assemble the roof substructure.
- Finally, screw on the roof surfaces and cover them with roofing felt or bitumen shingles.
Tip
You can find numerous construction plans, detailed materials and assembly instructions for playhouses on the Internet. These make the individual planning of the garden house for children much easier.
