A creative beauty treatment gives dull or old flower boxes a new look. This guide offers 2 clever and inexpensive methods to beautify a balcony box. Find out here how the transformation works with a granite look and creative napkin technology.
How can you creatively decorate flower boxes?
To creatively embellish flower boxes, you can use the napkin technique, where you stick printed napkins, or give the balcony box a granite look by using insulating shells from heating pipes and granite effect spray. Both methods are simple, inexpensive and effective.
Beautify the flower box with the napkin technique – short instructions
The materials list is as short as it is inexpensive. In addition to the flower box, you will need printed napkins, wood glue or paint glue, scissors and a brush. This is how a boring balcony box becomes a piece of jewelry:
- Cut the napkins so that they completely or partially cover the sides of the box
- Peel off the top layer and discard the rest of the napkin
- Coat the flower box thinly with wood glue (€3.00 on Amazon) or paint glue
- Put on the napkin motifs and smooth them out with your fingers
Use another layer of glue to fix the napkins on the flower box and let everything dry. Not only plastic containers can be beautified in this way. You can also use this method to transform a self-made wooden flower box into a decorative highlight on the balcony.
Balcony box in granite look – How to do it right
You can upgrade an everyday flower box into a plant pot with a natural stone look in no time. The only materials and accessories you need are the soft insulation shells from heating pipes, sandpaper, scissors, weatherproof glue, fabric tape and granite effect spray from the hardware store. This is how the beautification campaign works:
- Sand the flower box all around to optimize the adhesion of the granite spray
- Cut the silvery insulation along the longitudinal seam
- Coat the edge of the box with the weatherproof glue
- Glue the insulation tube onto it
- Connect the two ends with silver fabric tape
Finally, place the balcony box in an airy place on a block of wood. Spray the vessel all over with the granite effect spray and let it dry. You will only notice the difference to a real natural stone flower box later because of the lower weight.
Tip
If you have converted an old gutter into a balcony box, the napkin technique is just the right thing to spruce up the stressed material. To ensure that the napkins hold reliably in wind and weather, we recommend special napkin glue for the smooth surface. This is glue and varnish in one.
