Is it worth sinking the sandbox completely into the ground or should you place it on the lawn or another solid surface? Digging in requires a lot of work. The sandpit can be integrated very nicely into the garden.
Is it worth putting the sandbox in the ground?
Setting a sandbox in the ground is labor-intensive, but offers a nice integration into the garden. An alternative is to only bury it halfway up to save work and protect tree roots. Be sure to use a protective fleece as a base.
Put sandpit in the ground
If you want to completely embed the sandpit into the ground, you will have to dig up a relatively large amount of soil - depending on how big the sandpit ultimately becomes.
As a compromise, it is a good idea to only bury it halfway up. Not only does this save a lot of work, it is also advisable if the sandbox is close to a tree. Otherwise the roots can damage the construction.
Tip
If you sink the sandpit into the ground, you must definitely lay out protective fleece (€34.00 on Amazon) as a base. Otherwise you will have problems with weeds in the sandbox later. The fleece also keeps ants and other animals away.
