With a fire bowl you can make yourself comfortable with a small campfire in the garden, and not just in summer. Unfortunately, fire bowls are not particularly cheap to buy, so they should be treated with care. Painting with a fireproof paint is part of it.
How do you paint a fire bowl correctly?
To paint a fire bowl, clean it thoroughly, remove rust and roughen the surface. Use fireproof thermal or oven varnish in several thin coats, each allowing to dry between applications.
Why should you paint the fire bowl?
Fire bowls are exposed to a lot of wear and tear; after all, the extreme heat also affects heat-resistant material over time. In addition, fire bowls are made of metal, which can of course rust. Rust, in turn, destroys the material and thus the fire bowl over time and should therefore be prevented. The easiest way to accomplish this task is to paint it. The color also has the pleasant side effect that you can design the fire bowl according to your personal taste - so it also functions as a decorative element in the garden in everyday life.
Which color is suitable for painting the fire bowl?
You should only use fireproof thermal or oven paint for painting. Both paints are generally heat-resistant up to 1200 °C and should therefore be able to withstand the stress of a flickering fire. You can choose between spray paint and brush-on paint. Spray paint has the advantage that it can be applied not only faster, but also more evenly than brush paint.
Painting a fire bowl – this is how it works
When painting the fire bowl, proceed as follows:
- First of all, the bowl must be carefully cleaned.
- Remove any remaining dirt and then let the bowl dry.
- Now roughen the surfaces with sandpaper or a wire brush.
- You can roughly remove any rust spots.
- Now you can apply the paint color either with a brush or a spray can.
- Depending on the brand and manufacturer, you will need to apply between three and five coats of paint.
- Let the individual layers of paint dry in between.
- Don't apply the paint too thickly, it will be uneven.
Experience has shown that you need around one to two spray cans for a medium-sized fire bowl. If the bowl is larger, of course there is more color.
Tip
For optimal protection, a frequently used fire bowl should be painted every two to three years. If you use them less often, you can also treat them at longer intervals.
