Both prefer sunny locations and can be easily pruned.
Sage definitely needs regular pruning, otherwise it will become woody in the area close to the ground. Unlike many other herbs, it is evergreen. In addition, it can even tolerate frost to a certain extent. This means you can often harvest the leaves fresh into the winter for an anti-inflammatory sore throat and cold tea.
If you want to plant lavender as a bed border, then be sure to pay attention to the variety you buy. Not all lavender has a pleasant scent. Lavendula latifloia, also known as spit lavender, is not exactly one of them with its camphor-like, rather strong smell. But it is supposed to drive away aphids. French lavender, on the other hand, has a very aromatic scent, but is not hardy.
