You can achieve great effects with a small stream, even in strictly formal and modern gardens. A stream made of stainless steel looks particularly good when you combine it with a small pond or water basin. For a perfectly straight, elegant stream like this one, we recommend a square or rectangular pond that is only planted in a minimalist way - for example with individual water lilies.

How can I build a stainless steel stream myself?

To build a stainless steel stream yourself, you need prefabricated channels that are inserted into each other. Make sure the floor is level, pad the pit with weed protection fleece and install a water reservoir with a submersible pump. Connect the gutters watertight and conceal the edges.

Easy installation of the stainless steel gutter

Constructing a stainless steel stream is very easy with the help of a prefabricated channel. This simple shape consists of different bowls that are inserted into each other depending on the required length. And this is how it works:

  • First measure how long the stream should be and how many channels you need for it.
  • Various elements are available commercially that can be combined with each other.
  • Curvy streams are usually not possible, only in an angled form.
  • Dig up the stream and compact the soil well.
  • This has to be absolutely flat.
  • If necessary, level it with sand or gravel.
  • Now pad the pit with a weed protection fleece.
  • If you do not install a water basin, dig in a water reservoir.
  • This is located at the lower end of the stream channel.
  • The submersible pump is also located there.
  • Seal the connection points between the individual gutters with waterproof adhesive tape (€9.00 on Amazon).
  • Now screw the connecting plates together.
  • Now install the screwed gutter.
  • It should be horizontal or have a slight slope towards the water reservoir.
  • The return hose should be installed next to (not under!) the stream.
  • Perform a test run.
  • Conceal the edges, for example with gravel, gravel or paving stones.

Design of the border determines the overall impression

With a modernist stream made of stainless steel, the design of the surroundings or border has a significant impact on the overall impression. The shape should be clear and sharply defined, but does not necessarily have to be rectangular or square. An oval, a circle or narrow stripes also support the formalistic garden image. At best, the motifs are repeated in the further design of the beds, so that a harmonious overall impression is created.

Tip

The strictly formal stream channels can be built not only from stainless steel, but also from aluminum, plastic, concrete or natural stone. Brick stream channels are particularly interesting in this context.
