How do I grow privet cuttings?
Privet offshoots are best grown from cuttings, cuttings or planters. Cut cuttings in spring, use cuttings in late summer and use cuttings at any time, ideally in spring or autumn. Regular watering and avoiding waterlogging are important.
Pulling offshoots from privet
Growing offshoots from a privet is incredibly easy. All you need is a he althy mother plant. Cut cuttings or cuttings from it. Since privet has to be cut frequently, especially in the early years, there will be no shortage of material.
You have three options to choose from as methods for obtaining offshoots:

The best time to grow privet cuttings
If you want to grow privet from cuttings, use early spring. It is best to use cuttings in late summer. Propagation via cuttings is possible at any time except in winter. Spring or autumn are the cheapest.
Growing privet from cuttings
You can grow cuttings in seed pots (€8.00 on Amazon), but you can also plant them directly outdoors. You need young shoots about 20 cm long. Remove the bottom leaves and trim the top. Insert the shoot into the soil and tap the substrate well.
Water the cuttings regularly, but avoid waterlogging. Roots should have formed by autumn.
Cuttings as offshoots
For this you need small twigs of privet that are already woody at the bottom. They arise, for example, if you put a privet on stock. Simply insert the pieces of wood into the ground at the desired location and tamp down the soil. Now all you have to do is water regularly and the cuttings will root within a few months.

Only the scored part of the sinker is covered with earth. The tip of the shoot must still be sticking out of the ground.
Tip
Basically, you can also get offshoots from the seeds that ripen in the slightly poisonous berries. However, this takes time and is not nearly as successful as propagation via cuttings or cuttings.
