When and in what colors does the weigela bloom?

The Weigela blooms profusely from May to June or July, depending on the variety. The flower colors vary between carmine red (Bristol Ruby), pure white (Snowflake), golden yellow (Golden Weigela), soft pink (Nana variegata), dark pink (Purpurea) and vermilion red (All Summer Red).

How long do weigelias bloom?

Most varieties of weigelia bloom very profusely for several weeks from around May. The flowering period usually lasts until June, sometimes even into July. With good care and in a full sun location, it will bloom again in early autumn. However, this is far less lush than the main flower.

What color does the weigela bloom?

Probably the best-known variety of the Weigelia genus is the carmine-red blooming Bristol Ruby. In autumn it also shows a beautiful light brown to golden yellow foliage color. To ensure it is shown to its best advantage, give it enough space. Also keep in mind that the Bristol Ruby can become quite a large shrub with a height of two to three meters.

Pure white flowers are very rarely seen on the weigela. If you would like to have this color in your garden, then plant the “Snowflake” variety. As with this weigela, the golden weigela also has its flower color in its name. It blooms golden yellow.

The flower colors of the weigela:

  • Snowflake: pure white, very rare color
  • Gold weigela: golden yellow
  • variegated weigela Nana variegata: soft pink
  • Red-leaved Weigela Purpurea: dark pink
  • Weigela Bristol Ruby: carmine red
  • Dwarf Weigelia “All Summer Red”: vermilion red

Tip

The variety “All Summer Red” indicates not only the color but also the duration of flowering.
