A pine tree in your own garden? Why not? After all, the conifer is very easy to care for and exudes that incomparable smell of fresh forest floor. The pine has hardly any demands on the location. However, they promote growth by taking into account some factors.
Which location does the pine tree prefer in the garden?
For pine trees to have an ideal location in the garden, they need sufficient light, deep and nutrient-rich soil and enough space for their branches and roots to spread. The pH value should be in the slightly acidic range (5, 5-7).
The pine tree - a pioneer tree
Pines are called pioneer trees. This means that they can adapt to the most uneconomical places even under extreme conditions. Even in rocky mountains they sometimes form the only vegetation. Fortunately, this is not necessary on your property. Here your jaw benefits from-
- sufficient light
- the right floor
- enough space to unfold
Light supply
Pine trees need a lot of light to develop. Shady garden corners inhibit growth. When planted under other conifers, such as firs or spruces, pines die completely.
Soil texture
Be sure to choose deep soil. This is the only way for the pine tree to form a deep taproot that protects it from snapping in the wind and supplies it with nutrients. Ideally, the soil is very nutrient-rich. Keep the substrate permanently moist if this condition is not met. A pH value of 5.5-7 in the slightly acidic range is ideal.
Keep enough distance
When choosing a location, consider both the above and below ground spread of the branches and roots. When making your decision, consider the distance to buildings, other trees and neighboring property.
