How to plant a larch tree in the garden?
To plant a larch in the garden, choose a sunny location with loamy, nutrient-rich soil and a pH value between 5.5 and 7. Plant the tree in a large planting hole in autumn, water it regularly and optionally attach a support post.

The location of the larch must be chosen carefully when planting, because this tree reaches a considerable size and has a long life ahead of it. This is important:
- a loamy, nutrient-rich soil
- deeply fresh and moisture-retaining
- with pH value 5.5 to 7
- sunny place, without shading from other plants
A small garden is unsuitable for larch in the long term. Likewise, close proximity to house walls and paved areas must be avoided.
The ideal planting time
If you want to enrich your home garden with a larch, then you should get a young tree from the nursery between October and November and plant it without delay. The only thing you should definitely pay attention to is a frost-free day. A specimen about 50 cm high is ideal and can be had for under 20 euros.

Preparation before the larch “moves in”
After you have found the ideal location for the larch, you should dig the ground deeply. If necessary, you should enrich the soil with clay or compost. Then dig a large planting hole that is twice the size of the larch's root ball.
Place the root system of the larch and the pot in the water so that it can soak up. This makes later rooting easier and quicker.
The final step: planting out
- Carefully insert the tree into the prepared planting hole.
- Keep the larch upright while filling the gaps with soil.
- Tread the earth firmly.
- Water the larch thoroughly on the first day of planting and do not neglect this activity in the following weeks. Until the roots have conquered the new soil, the tree is dependent on this watering.
