If you don't have enough space in your garden for a classic pond, you can create a mini pond using a zinc tub. This is how you create a small water oasis in your green area that looks extremely decorative.

How do you design a mini pond in a zinc tub?

To create a mini pond with aquatic plants in a zinc tub, you need a tub that is at least 40 cm deep, pond liner, gravel, aquatic plants and over six hours of daily sunlight. Place plant baskets with aquatic plants and floating plants on the surface of the water.

Convert a zinc tub into a mini pond – this is how it works

  1. Use a zinc tub with a minimum depth of 40 centimeters.
  2. Place the tub directly at the intended location (can no longer be transported when filled with water). Choose a partially shaded spot that receives six hours of sunlight daily.
  3. Line the zinc tub with sturdy pond liner (€10.00 on Amazon).
  4. Cover the bottom of the tub with about five centimeters of washed gravel.
  5. Fill the tub halfway with water (using a watering can and saucer).
  6. Put aquatic plants in plant baskets.
  7. Integrate baskets into the mini pond (tall water plants in the background).
  8. Fill the pond with water so that a five centimeter wide edge remains free.
  9. Place floating plants on the surface of the water (plant a maximum of two thirds so that enough light can penetrate).

These aquatic plants are suitable for the zinc tub

Here are examples for each planting area:

  • Floating plants: frog bite, swimming fern, dwarf duckweed
  • Plant height flush with water surface: swamp forget-me-not, juggler flower
  • 10-15 cm deep: marsh marigold, dwarf cattail, stream bunge
  • Up to 30 cm deep: Cyprus grass, lotus flower
  • 20-40 cm deep: water lily, mini water lily, water feather
  • For all zones: water plague (cleansing!)
