In addition to their expressive appearance, birch trees are particularly known for their pioneering spirit: they take even barren areas by storm and quickly impress with their impressive height. Birch growth is indeed extremely rapid.

How fast and tall does a birch tree grow?

Birches grow very quickly and reach an average height of seven meters after about six years. Fully grown birch trees can reach a height of around 30 meters, in individual cases even more.

This is how tall birch trees get

With their rapid growth, the deciduous birches can reach a height of seven meters on average after just six years. Most members of the genus Betulae are fully grown and reach a height of around 30 meters. In individual cases, some specimens even exceed this dimension.

Limiting the growth of birch trees

If you want to limit the growth of a birch tree on the balcony, in your home as a bonsai or even in a narrow garden, you can professionally cut back the original shoot when growing it. The initial growth is particularly rapid. However, if you want to keep a small birch tree that grows in a pot, it is helpful not to choose a container that is too large. The less the roots can spread, the more subdued the tree will grow. However, never deprive yourself of light or water, otherwise the birch will not grow any slower but will simply die.
