Golliwoog is an ideal food plant for some small pets. For example, birds, turtles and guinea pigs enjoy their green tendrils. With seeds, every pet owner could continually sow new supplies. But these are nowhere to be found. What does that mean?
Where can you buy Golliwoog seeds?
Golliwoog seeds are not available because “Golliwoog” is a protected brand name for the plant Callisia repens. Instead, you can buy a Golliwoog plant and simply propagate it through cuttings or sinkers to get more food for your pets.
Golliwoog – a brand
Golliwoog is not a plant name in the traditional sense, although a plant is actually sold under this name. Golliwoog is a trademarked name under which a plant is sold that actually goes by another name: Shrieking Beautiful Cushion, bot. Callisia repens.
The owner of the trademark rights sells the plant under this name in order to differentiate it from other offers and to clarify its suitability as animal feed. Creeping beautiful cushion, which is offered as an ornamental plant, is grown with plenty of pesticides. Feeding it can be fatal for animals.
Golliwoog seeds
The owner of the Golliwoog brand doesn't seem interested in selling seeds. Only plants are offered, presumably because selling them is more lucrative. Other providers, however, are not allowed to use these names. So far no one has been able to discover Golliwoog seeds in stores.
Creeping Beautiful Cushion Seeds
Trademark rights are rights to the brand, but not to the plant itself. Creeping Beautiful Poster may be sold commercially. Now some pet owners might come up with the idea of buying creeping beautiful cushion seeds. But here too you will search in vain for seeds. In industrial cultivation, the plant is usually harvested before it can form seeds.
Tip
One possible way to get “Golliwoog seeds” would be to look at swap meets.
Buy your first plant
It looks like the Golliwoog has to be bought as a finished plant. However, as good as the animals like it, one copy will not be enough in the long run. As quickly as the greenery is fed away, not enough can grow back, even with the best care. That's why new plants are needed.
Alternative propagation methods
Once you hold a plant in your hand, you can easily propagate it. The search for seeds is history. The following are suitable for propagation:
- Cuttings
- Lowers
Growth can be seen just one week after rooting.
