How fast does Miscanthus grow and when does it reach its final size?
Miscanthus grows fastest in the vegetation phase from spring to autumn and can achieve a daily growth of up to 5 cm. Final size is reached in the second or third year and depends on location, soil and weather.
Does Miscanthus grow all year round?
Miscanthus does not grow all year round, but only in the so-called vegetation phase. This lasts from spring to autumn. If the miscanthus shows its attractive autumn colors, then growth is complete for this year. The rest phase begins. Next year the shield will sprout again and new stalks will grow. You should cut off the old stalks beforehand.
How big is the daily increase?
Miscanthus grows to a height of around two meters depending on the variety. It must reach this height within a few weeks. The daily growth is therefore often several centimeters, and in the case of giant Miscanthus it can even be up to five centimeters. After all, it grows up to four meters high. Dwarf miscanthus grows much more slowly, it only grows to a height of about one meter.
