Growth is a criterion in which the different varieties of miscanthus (bot. Miscanthus sinensis) differ from one another. This affects both the speed of growth and the maximum height. Even the root formation is different.
How is miscanthus growing?
The growth of miscanthus varies depending on the variety, with the giant miscanthus growing up to 4 meters tall and the dwarf miscanthus reaching a maximum height of 1 to 1.5 meters. The plants usually grow quickly and have either clump-forming or rhizome-forming roots.
How do miscanthus roots grow?
Most varieties of miscanthus can be classified as clump-forming plants. Although they continue to spread, despite their sometimes enormous size, they remain relatively compact and do not have long root runners (rhizomes). You should use a root barrier for the less rhizomatous varieties.
