Houseplants have very different needs in terms of care and location. Not every plant feels comfortable in front of a sunny, south-facing window. This also applies to the popular anthurium, which prefers shade. But can you also put the flamingo flower in the bedroom?
Which location is ideal for the anthurium?
The anthurium is native to the South American rainforests, where it often grows and thrives as an epiphyte. Of course, at home the flamingo flower needs similar conditions:
- bright, but not exactly shady
- if possible, shaded to partially shaded
- all year round between 18 and 25 °C
- no temperature fluctuations
- no dry heating air
- no drafts
You should be careful, especially in winter: Do not place the anthurium near a heater, keep the humidity high by spraying and avoid cold snaps, for example when ventilating.
Do anthuriums feel comfortable in the bedroom?
In fact, anthuriums are very suitable for the bedroom: it is often not as sunny and warm here as in other rooms. Quite the opposite, because the bedroom is usually the coolest room in the apartment. However, in winter, make sure that the temperature does not fall below 18 °C and that the window should not be left open permanently.
Where else can the anthurium be placed?
However, anthuriums should feel particularly comfortable in the bathroom, especially if you don't put them directly next to the window or next to the heater in winter. The humidity in the bathroom is naturally much higher than in the rest of the apartment, and it should be warm enough, especially in the winter months - many people sleep rather cool and do not heat their bedroom. In the bathroom, however, it can often be warmer. However, only place plants in a bathroom with natural light!
Which plants are suitable for the bedroom?
In addition to the anthurium, these plants are also suitable for the bedroom:
- Single leaf (Spathiphyllum)
- Green Lily
- bow hemp
- Efeutute
- Palm Lily (Yucca)
- Dragon Tree
- rubber tree
- Lucky Feather (Zamioculcas)
- Kentia palm
The species mentioned not only provide a little jungle feeling, they are also easy to care for, calm the mind and ensure good indoor air.
Tip
Brown leaf tips indicate dry indoor air
You can tell if the air in the room is too dry for anthuriums (and other rainforest plants) because the tips and edges of the leaves turn yellow to yellow-brown. Keep the humidity continuously high, especially in winter, by spraying and showering.
