Completely undemanding, adaptable and visually enriching in all corners of the garden - lady's mantle impresses as an almost evergreen ornamental foliage perennial. But not just for yourself. Find out below which other plants it harmonizes with.
Which plants go well with lady's mantle?
The lady's mantle harmonizes well in the bed or pot with common speedwell, floribunda roses, shrub roses, hollyhocks, hostas, delphiniums, blue ladder to heaven and lavender. In bouquets it complements purple, red and pink flowers as well as pennisetum and feather bristle grass particularly well.
What factors should you consider when combining lady's coats?
So that the lady's mantle cuts a good figure in the combination, you should pay attention to these factors when choosing companion plants:
- Flower color: yellow-green
- Flowering time: June to July
- Location requirements: sunny to partially shaded, permeable and nutrient-rich soil
- Growth height: 30 to 50 cm
The lady's mantle is extremely location tolerant. That's why it's usually not a problem to find suitable planting partners for it. Perennials as well as trees and grasses are predestined for a combination. When choosing, however, take into account the short height of the lady's mantle, which is best visible in the foreground.
It is advisable to choose companion plants for lady's mantle that also bloom in summer and whose flower color is more intense. The flowers of the lady's mantle form a beautiful base in the bed, but are rather reserved. It is therefore a good idea to plant neighbors with striking flower colors and flower shapes.
Combine lady's mantle in the bed or in the bucket
Since lady's mantle shows off its pretty leaves almost all year round, it goes well with plants that do the same or that look rather dreary and unsightly in winter and need some sprucing up.
The following are ideal for women's coats:
- Ancient Honor Award
- Floor roses and shrub roses
- Hollyhock
- Funkia
- larkspur
- Blue ladder to heaven
- Lavender
Combine a woman's coat with flora roses
In summer, the lady's mantle lies around the radiant bed roses like a gentle carpet of flowers. Since the flowers of the lady's mantle are rather discreet, you can use floribunda roses in a variety of colors in the combination. However, keep a planting distance of at least one meter from the bed roses, as they quickly feel crowded.
Combining women's coats with hostas
Two popular foliage perennials meet here. For this combination, ideally choose a partially shaded location and place the hostas in the background of the lady's mantle. To enliven the soft and even green of the lady's mantle leaves, you should choose white variegated, striped or blue hostas. This creates an appealing contrast.
Combining a woman's coat with lavender
Lavender loves dryness and heat. The lady's mantle can easily adapt to this and it's worth it. When the lavender flowers pile up in summer, they create a unique contrast with the lady's mantle. The violet of the lavender flowers literally begins to glow and the delicate flowers of the lady's mantle look like sparkling stars.
Combine lady's coat as a bouquet in the vase
Similar to gypsophila, lady's mantle is also a tried and tested component in the bouquet. It goes well with purple, red and pink flowers, caressing them almost tenderly. You can top the bouquet in the vase with pennisetum grass or feather bristle grass.
