Where lavender feels comfortable, it grows very quickly. Therefore, you should ensure optimal site conditions and proper care.
How do I promote the rapid growth of lavender?
Lavender grows quickly under optimal site conditions and proper care. For rapid growth, you should maintain sufficient planting distance, cut back annually and fertilize sparingly.
Give lavender enough space to grow
Since lavender grows very quickly and, above all, very bushy under the right conditions, you should ensure there is sufficient distance before planting the young plants. Otherwise, in a few years you may have to laboriously separate the plants and transplant them. How large the planting distance should be depends on the lavender variety. The lower it grows, the smaller the distance between the individual plants can be. Potted lavender needs the largest possible bucket - the bigger, the better.
Prune lavender annually
Lavender is botanically a subshrub, i.e. H. Over the years, the older shoots become woody. However, no new shoots and therefore no flowers grow from this wood. So that you don't end up with a more or less bare bush within a short period of time, you should prune the lavender annually - ideally in spring and after flowering. Topiary pruning in spring in particular stimulates the plant to produce lush growth of young shoots.
Tips & Tricks
Do not fertilize lavender too often, as this does not accelerate the growth of new shoots, but only the woodiness. Planted lavender just needs a little lime from time to time.
