How do you care for a crown of glory plant?

The crown of fame plant requires loose soil with a pH value of 5.5 to 6, a bright, warm location without direct midday sun, regular watering with room temperature water and occasional spraying for higher humidity. In winter it should hibernate frost-free and dark.

The right location for the crown of glory

The crown of glory feels particularly comfortable in a bright, warm place without major temperature fluctuations and in the blazing midday sun. This can definitely be in the garden in summer, but also in a well-air-conditioned greenhouse or a winter garden. A climbing aid such as a trellis or climbing frame is welcome.

Ideally, water the crown of glory with rainwater or stale tap water at room temperature. You can also use this to spray the plant, because as a tropical plant the crown of glory prefers a humidity of around 50 to 65 percent.

The best ground for the crown of glory

For the crown of fame, it is best to use a loose, not too fine potting soil (€12.00 on Amazon) or a compost-based substrate. A pH value between 5.5 and 6 is ideal. As a rule, the crown of fame is cultivated in a planter, which should definitely have a drainage layer.

How to overwinter your crown of fame

Your crown of glory needs hibernation at around 12°C to 15°C. A lot of space is not necessary because the plant withers after flowering and only the tuberous roots remain. Bring this tuber to a frost-free and dark winter quarters.

If you have cultivated your crown of fame in a vessel, then leave it in this vessel during this time. Alternatively, you can use a box with sand in which many different plants can overwinter.

In the spring you should replant the crown of glory. Remove the old soil and clean the tuber. Place any daughter tubers that have formed in their own containers. Cover the tubers with soil about two to three centimeters deep.

The most important things in brief:

  • loose soil
  • ph value between 5, 5 and 6
  • bright warm location
  • not unprotected in the midday sun
  • preferably higher humidity
  • water with room temperature water and spray occasionally

Tip

The decorative crown of fame is ideal for planting in a winter garden, and in summer also for the terrace or balcony.
