Unfortunately, lawn edge stones are not always the right size. Therefore, they sometimes have to be cut to the required dimensions. In order for the cut to be successful, you need the right tools and the right technique.
How do I cut lawn edging stones correctly?
To cut lawn edging stones, you need a cut-off grinder with a diamond wheel, water, a meter rule and a pencil. Mark the cuts, first cutting shallowly and then deeper while wetting the stone with water. Finally, cut or break from both sides.
What should you pay attention to when cutting lawn edging stones?
- Always cut on a firm, level surface where the stone cannot slip.
- The thicker the stone, the stronger the disc of your cut-off grinder should be: for narrow stones (under 10cm) a 125 is sufficient, for thicker stones you should use a 180 or 230 flex.
- Wet the stone with water while cutting to reduce dust formation! But make sure that the electronics do not get wet!
Instructions for cutting lawn edge stones
- Water
- Meter measure
- Pencil or similar for marking
- 125, 180 or 230 flex (€9.00 at Amazon) with diamond disc
- Water hose or watering can
1. Mark
Measure exactly what dimensions your lawn edge stones should have and mark the interfaces on both sides (!) of the stone.
2. Cutting
Place the stone on a flat, firm surface and first make a straight, flat cut along the marking in one go to create a straight cut. Then apply more pressure to this mark several times until you have cut about halfway through the stone.
While cutting, a second person should use a water hose to run a fine trickle of water onto the stone. This means the window is cooled and no dust flies up.
3. Cut completely
Now turn the stone over and cut to the middle from the other side. It is very important that you measure correctly so that the cuts meet straight in the middle.
Cut until the stone is completely cut through. Alternatively, you can break narrow stones apart with a hammer and chisel after cutting them on both sides.
