Männertreu is not really hardy because it can hardly tolerate frost. Although there are perennial varieties of lobelia, the blue lobelia (men's faithful) is usually sold as an annual perennial and is sown anew every year.
Can men overwinter faithfully?
Männertreu, also known as blue lobelia, is not hardy and can hardly tolerate frost. Overwintering is rarely successful and is hardly worth it. Instead, re-sowing in winter is recommended in order to get magnificent plants again next year.
True to men in winter
The lobelia should overwinter in a cool, but frost-free place, however, Mannestreu does not always sprout again after the hibernation period. New sowing, on the other hand, is more successful. Sow in pots or in the greenhouse from January. Since the Mannestreu is a light germinator, the seeds should only be covered with a little soil. The ideal germination temperature is 16 – 18 °C.
