Planting the girl's eye - also known as the beautiful face - was completely uncomplicated. The heyday was bombastic. But now autumn is approaching and the question arises: Do you have to overwinter the girl's eye?
How to overwinter the girl's eye?
The girl's eye is hardy and can withstand temperatures down to -20 °C. In the bucket it should be wrapped and protected with fleece (€72.00 on Amazon). In the open field, it is recommended to place brushwood, leaves, compost, straw or pine branches on the root area. It is best to prune in spring.
Well hardy and still worth protecting
This perennial is well hardy in this country. Depending on the species, it can tolerate temperatures down to -20 °C. But be careful: If the girl's eye is in the bucket, it must be wrapped with fleece (€72.00 on Amazon) and placed in a protected location (e.g. on the wall of the house).
Species that are less tolerant of frost should also be protected outdoors. Place one of the following materials on the root area (also a combination of 2 protective materials):
- brushwood
- Leaves
- Compost
- Straw
- Fir branches
Tip
You can cut the girl's eye down to the base in both fall and spring. In general, pruning in spring is more recommended. The old inflorescences and shoots provide shelter for insects in winter.
