Beautiful mallows require little care and are very decorative. However, they have one disadvantage: they are slightly poisonous. It is therefore better to avoid the ornamental plant, also known as indoor maple, if there are small children in the house or if you have pets such as dogs and cats.
Is mallow poisonous to people and animals?
The beautiful mallow is a slightly poisonous ornamental plant that can cause inflammation and blistering in sensitive people upon skin contact. Small children and pets in particular should not have access to the plant to avoid ingestion or skin contact.
Slightly toxic upon skin contact
It is not yet known which toxins the mallow contains. However, it has been proven that sensitive people react with discomfort upon skin contact. The skin becomes inflamed and blisters.
Keep mallow out of the reach of small children and pets, as swallowing the plant components can be even more harmful. This is especially true in winter when the plant has to be overwintered indoors.
You should always wear gloves when cutting mallow.
Tip
The beautiful mallow ensures beautiful flowers almost all year round. With good care and a favorable location, the non-hardy plant can grow up to three meters high.
