The Schefflera has been in the living room for several years. It seems to have the perfect location and is also growing considerably. There doesn't seem to be a lack of care either. And yet: there are no flowers. When does the Schefflera bloom and what do its flowers actually look like?
When does the Schefflera bloom and what do the flowers look like?
The flowering period of a Schefflera is rare and takes place in the warm season between the end of June and the beginning of August. The flowers are yellowish-green to yellow-white, raceme-shaped and are upright to slightly inclined on the shoots.
A radiant aralia in bloom - a rare sight
In the perfect location and under ideal care conditions, it can happen and the ray aralia produces flowers. However, this is rarely the case in this country. This houseplant does not usually find optimal conditions.
When is flowering time?
If this houseplant is ready to bloom, it will do so during the warm season. Their flowers usually appear between the end of June and the beginning of August.
Blossoms are energy-sapping
The Schefflera sacrifices an incredible amount of energy to form its flowers. Afterwards it can be severely weakened and even lose leaves. If you don't want to take the risk, remove the inflorescences before the flowers open!
Characteristics of flowers
The flowers of the radiant aralia have the following characteristics, among others:
- stick to the new shoots
- stand upright to slightly inclined
- secrete sticky nectar
- raceme-shaped inflorescence
- Length of the inflorescence: up to 30 cm
- elongated, narrow shape of the inflorescence
- hermaphrodite, radially symmetrical individual flowers
- double perianth
- five to eleven petals
- yellowish-green to yellow-white color
Tip
If you don't want the Schefflera to lose even more strength by producing its fruits and seeds, you should cut off the flowers after they have withered.
