The enchanting Montbretias are among the oldest ornamental plants and were already extremely popular in grandmother's time. They originally come from the mild mountainous regions of South Africa, where they form dense plant colonies.
Which location do Montbretien prefer?
The ideal location for Montbretien is a warm, sunny and sheltered place with well-drained soil to avoid waterlogging. If conditions are too cool and shady, the flowering period is shortened and no flowers can be produced.

So that the Montbretias bloom abundantly, you should give the plants a warm, sunny and protected location. Here the Montbretias are also frost hardy with some winter protection and do not need to be dug up in autumn.
The condition of the soil is also important, because the small tubers quickly begin to rot when waterlogged. Add sand to heavy or compacted soils to allow water to drain easily.
Tip
If the Montbretie is too cold and too shady, the flowering time will be significantly shortened and the plant may not produce any flowers at all. In this case, transplant Montbretie to a warmer location, for example in front of a house wall, which stores the heat and releases it at night.
