False jasmine can be propagated either by seeds or cuttings. However, propagation by seeds is not recommended because the seeds germinate poorly. It is much easier to cut cuttings and let them root in potting soil.

How to propagate false jasmine?
To propagate false jasmine, cut semi-woody shoots of approx.20 cm long, remove the lower leaves, cut the upper leaves in half and stick the cuttings in a sand-soil mixture. Keep moist and protect with a plastic cover, plant out in spring.

Cut cuttings in June
Cut cuttings after flowering in June. Choose semi-woody shoots that are approximately 20 centimeters long.
The lower leaves must be removed as they rot in the soil. You should cut the upper leaves in half so that the cutting can use all its power for rooting.
Cut at least twice as many cuttings from the bush as you actually need. Not every cutting roots well.
Prepare potting soil
Many gardeners recommend sticking the cuttings in a mixture of sand and garden soil. Propagation usually works if you simply stick it in normal garden soil in a protected spot.
Pull cuttings in the growing bed or pots?
You can either grow false jasmine cuttings outdoors in a nursery bed or place them in prepared pots.
If you pull the cuttings directly in the garden, ensure good winter protection as the shoots are not hardy enough.
When growing in pots, overwinter the cuttings in a cellar that is not too dark.
Care for cuttings properly
The false jasmine cuttings must not dry out. The best way to prevent drying out is to place a transparent plastic bag, such as a freezer bag, over the cutting.
The covering must be ventilated frequently, otherwise there is a risk that the cuttings will rot.
Plant out next spring
By the following spring, the cuttings have developed roots and can be planted in the intended location.
You need a little patience until the first flowering. False jasmine from cuttings only blooms after two to four years.
Tip
Rooting powder for the interfaces is not necessary for false jasmine. The cuttings usually root without any problems, even without additional treatment.
