So that the jasmine develops many fragrant flowers, it needs a location that is as sunny as possible but not draughty. Since the plant is not hardy, it is grown in a bucket on the terrace or balcony or in the flower window.
Which location is suitable for jasmine?
The ideal location for jasmine is sunny to slightly shady, protected from the wind and not too humid. The room should be protected from direct midday sun and well ventilated. In winter, jasmine needs cool, frost-free conditions at a maximum of 10 degrees.
The right outdoor location
- Sunny to slightly shady
- sheltered from the wind
- not too humid
Jasmine can tolerate full midday sun outdoors and feels particularly comfortable. Therefore, place the plant on a sunny terrace or a south-facing balcony.
Jasmine doesn't get wind or too much rain. Protect the ornamental plant from excessive drafts and heavy downpours.
The right location in the room
- Sunny
- protected from direct midday sun
- airy
As much as the jasmine likes the blazing sun - if you care for it in the flower window, you have to shade the place a little at midday.
The window glass acts like a burning glass and leaves brown spots on the leaves.
Jasmine needs a location that can be well ventilated. Otherwise, the actually robust plant will very quickly suffer from diseases and, above all, pest infestation. Ventilate the window at least twice a day.
Jasmine needs to be kept cool over the winter
In contrast to scented jasmine or false jasmine, real jasmine is not hardy. In winter, the ornamental plant must be kept cool but frost-free over the winter.
The temperatures at the location in winter should under no circumstances exceed 10 degrees because the jasmine will not bloom the next year.
Jasmine is deciduous and sheds its leaves in autumn. Nevertheless, you should keep it safe over the winter.
Tip
Jasmine doesn't have any great demands on the planting substrate. For planting, normal garden or potting soil (€7.00 on Amazon) with a little mature compost is sufficient. To avoid waterlogging, you should mix in some expanded clay or sand.
